Day 9 - a Year by the Sea

birdnest.jpg
Although this is a bird nest, it’s squirrels that I want to talk about. While looking around for a good photo, I heard what sounded like a hawk making a racket. I hear hawks every fall when the juvenile red tails that grow up near my workplace, are separated from their parents finally and they spend several weeks complaining about where are ma and pa. They make a lot of noise until they finally give up and fly away. Anyway, I hear this racket and after standing still and looking hard, I saw this squirrel and it was making the noise. That was strange but I still wanted my tea and scone first. After that, I went looking for the picture and then a second squirrel on another street started in. All I can figure is that like the skunks whose season of love and lust has just swung into full gear, the squirrels are into the same orgy of loud expression which the red wings will start up in another few months. It’s hard to see January as a month of noisy sex but that’s what it is.

Ciao!
