Day 12 - a Year by the Sea
January 12, 2007 by OrientSee.

What?!? You never been up close to a metal rhino before? Obviously you come from some sort of down-scale burb.
Actually, what I want to talk about is squirrels. I was driving up the street this morning and about 100 feet ahead of me, a large, black and white cat ran across the street. He was very large (and presumably male therefore) and his coloring was very striking and very visible. A few feet further on I saw a squirrel standing on his hind legs very still, looking at something. Which was strange, considering the tom that just ran past. Then I realized that there was a dead squirrel on the street in front of him. I just missed our most efficient killer of small animals and birds at work. There were no cars moving around. It probably was the cat. The living squirrel was immobile with fear?, sorrow? or just what. Then as the car came up on the scene, the squirrel disappeared. That was that. A little bit of death in the morning is disturbing. The morning scone and the latte were laying uneasy and I couldn’t help having a little shiver.
Ciao!
