Day 21 - a Year by the Sea
January 21, 2007 by OrientSee.
Atop the hill I live on is this. It is a very tall steel cross that is lit up at night. You can see it from far away. It is a measure of the faith that people used to have. It was not enough to believe in your heart. There had to be some sort of physical manifestation. You believed and you told the world. Down the hill from the cross is a metal statue of Mary made of metal donated from the kitchens and homes of many people. The statue is approximately 25 feet tall and is an awesome sight. A sign of faith made real. The third generation no longer believes in this fashion and are uncomfortable with this kind of display. Their parents and grandparents did this in part to say something about themselves in this often unfriendly place as well as to express their faith.
