Day 39 - a Year by the Sea
February 8, 2007 by OrientSee.
These are foxtails. When the phragmites reeds set seed heads, they are first green and then when the heads open, there is a wave of silver flashing across the reed stands. Now later in the winter, the foxtails glow gold. These are displaying above one of the many hidden pondlets in the marsh. I was actually standing on a life guard’s stand that some one dragged out in the reeds. It was certainly a birder who takes photos of the bird life. Our local official guardians of the reservation had a bad habit of dumping old beach equipment into a back corner of the marsh. So some avid birder persevered and hauled an old stand out into the reeds and enabled me to take this shot.
Ciao!
