Day 43 - a Year by the Sea
This is a fierce and hardy carnivore, Felis catus in the wild. Actually it is most probably a house cat gone feral. It is enjoying the warm sun on this winter day and is within 150 feet of Boston harbor. There’s a little bit of wild weed and driftwood at the far southern end of Deer Island. I’m sure that the place is rife with mice but I doubt the cat tackles the gulls and sea ducks close by. I haven’t seen any carcasses and those birds would likely be too much for a cat to mess with. Because of the sewage plant nearby, there is a good chance that it is scavenging the trash or perhaps, some one is actually feeding it. I am surprised by its hardiness. We have had two very cold weeks go by recently. It was watching me very closely as I took this photo with my telephoto. It would have not tolerated me coming closer. We have some really bad weather coming, snow, sleet and freezing rain, which will try this cat’s ability to survive. Bon chance, kitty.
Ciao!
