Day 66 - a Year by the Sea
March 7, 2007 by OrientSee.
This has been the second day of a severe freeze. I was not expecting much to see in the marsh until I realized the freeze meant that I could tramp out on top of the muck instead of through it. So here are some dinosaur tracks. Well not really. Although there weren’t any birds around, it’s obvious that the Canada Geese were out earlier looking for food. Then after waiting a bit, I noticed a Kildeer feeding off the mud and then a Red-tailed Hawk came to roost in a tree next to the coffin factory (yes, coffins for dead people). Then the geese showed up, followed by a flock of noisy bickering crows. A few gulls came wheeling overhead and then it started to feel very much alive even though the cold was numbing. This bit of land that was often abused and treated as empty waste was very much alive in all the cold.
Ciao!
