Day 67 - a Year by the Sea
March 8, 2007 by OrientSee.
Behind the Orient Heights T train yard and the New England Casket Co. is a small marsh pond, called Rosie’s Pond. The pond sits below a small ridge of trees. This red tail hawk roosts up in the trees watching and waiting for its next meal. All the other birds take notice and even the gulls stay out of its way. The trees are a tangled mess of dead limbs and provide a very quiet waiting place for the hawk. I once looked out my pantry window to find this bird 6 feet away in the maple behind my house. It was a chilling encounter. I wasn’t frightened but this bird definitely had the thousand yard stare.
Ciao!
