Day 72 - a Year by the Sea
March 13, 2007 by OrientSee.
The marsh at low tide is a small town at 3 am with all the sidewalks rolled up. There isn’t much going on. The planes roar overhead and the wind blows through the reeds but that’s about it. This is one of the irregular natural channels through the tidal plain. I plodded along trying to stay aware of the marsh around me. I was behind the T train yards when like a cheap horror movie, something suddenly jumped out of the reeds in burst of motion. It wasn’t a homicidal dead mutant but a pheasant. It startled me so badly that I might as well have been watching Freddy Krueger coming for me. It was a gorgeous explosion of color from a monotone patch of reeds into an overcast day . That rescued my walk from plodding boredom and turned it into a delight.
Ciao!
