Day 78 - a Year by the Sea
This bit of trash is actually quite useful. It’s a discarded fiberglass pickup bed cover. It’s one more reminder of the human touch in the marsh. Ugly as sin, this cover is a hugely useful bridge across one of the larger marsh ditches on the Winthrop side. Going around would take quite a distance of forcing a trail across several hundred yards of reeds and wet muck. A quick trip across this slippery bridge and you’re back on drier land and off to more interesting views. A bit of wood would be more aesthetically pleasing. What would be interesting is finding out why and how this got here. The likeliest explanation involves beer and adolescents of which there is ample evidence. A little glade not far from here is decorated with beer cans impaled on reeds. It is hard to believe that the average under-age drinker plans any thing out like prepositioning a bridge like this. On the other hand, this may be Valhalla for all those first time drunks.
Ciao!
