Day 91 - a Year by the Sea
April 1, 2007 by OrientSee.
This is a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers. They are diving ducks which means that they swim very well under the water looking for food. They are under for a surprising amount of time. This pair was on the south side of Deer Island. I haven’t been out there in almost three weeks. There are plenty of eider ducks and gulls. I saw a Brant which is a smaller version of a Canada Goose. The Song Sparrows were out serenading along with the Red-wing Blackbirds. The feral cat living out at the end of the island is alive and well. It was very pleasant except that the skyline was highlighted with a yellow band of haze which I haven’t seen in months. Urban air pollution back with a vengeance. I wonder why we all don’t have bad lungs. It’s what I imagine the air over Mordor looked like. Hopefully, the next front will blow it off for a while.
Ciao!
