Day 101 - a Year by the Sea

This is a bit abstract but it is a thin sheen of ice on a pool today. April ice. Our hardier neighbors to the frozen north will point out the silliness. After all they see ice in June. It’s not the cold but the fragility that made me take this.  The temporary bloom is far sweeter than the hardiest flower. There were a couple of goldfinches that shared their yellow brightness with me today. I was watching these 4 neat little ducks called buffleheads when literally out of the brush leaped a red-tail hawk about 40 yards from me. He settled down on an old parking light and preened for a while. The ducks apparently didn’t pay any attention to this big raptor who was literally towering over them. Maybe bufflehead doesn’t taste good or red-tails don’t like getting their feet wet. For a moment, I thought there was going to be some ornithological violence but every one turned out to be good neighbors and went their peaceful way. Today was great but tomorrow we’re having a Nor’easter with blowing frozen and wet dampness. Just another awful day. Turn your alarms off tonight and sleep in. All that storm tossed stuff means good sleep and a hardy breakfast.
