Day 104 - a Year by the Sea
April 14, 2007 by OrientSee.
At the end of the T yard at Orient Heights is an Osprey platform for the birds to nest. This is a prospective tenant. This osprey spent a good part of the morning just perched on this pole surveying the neighborhood. He flew off to challenge some other bird who had the temerity to land in a nearby tree. Mostly, he just perched. If you ever wondered, seahawk is another name for osprey. It is just awesome that a bird almost the size of a bald eagle lives next door to my urban world. We do our best to screw up the world we live in and yet there’s an osprey next to the T and 200 yards from Brook’s Drugstore. Today was a doubleheader for me because I saw my first snowy egret of the year. Tall elegant and with a real hairdo, snowy egrets are the birds that first made me realize that there are more than pigeons and gulls in East Boston.
Ciao!
