Day 131 - a Year by the Sea
May 11, 2007 by OrientSee.
You have to be ready to see before you can see. That does sound like a faith driven believer but in this case, it’s about birds. My recent trip to cemetery land gave me an opportunity to see birds that I never see here in the marsh. So, I saw a Baltimore Oriole which I have only seen once before a very long time ago. Today, a flash of bright color caught my step. Stopped in place, I looked up and there it was, a Baltimore Oriole. Now that’s not much of a story but it was the second time this happened today. Earlier, I was watching the osprey platform and I heard the pheasant calling. This time the pheasant in broad daylight minced across the marsh on foot without a care. I moved and he froze. I lost track of him but I knew the general area that he had to be in. With a little patience, I kept on scanning till I saw the bright red of his head behind tuft of grass. He was well camouflaged. Now I know why I never see him, even when I hear his call. This bird has the knack of becoming nearly invisible. Most of all, I had to be ready to see before I could see him for real.
Ciao!
