Day 134 - a Year by the Sea

common_yellowthroat.jpg

Carnival! He already has his mask on. This is a Common Yellowthroat. There is a party going on. This is the time of year when all the migrants are passing as they fly north to their breeding grounds. Plenty of birds have already nested and even hatched young but others are still on their way. Birders get a little giddy now. They swap names of birds that seem too fanciful to be true (Scarlet Tanager - Gone with the Wind?) or just weird (Pyrrhuloxia - that’s not a disease). Some of these birds are so similar that there are regularly arguments about identifying them. You know that the birds are having a laugh since they are passing their feathers back and forth just to confuse the humans. Today, I’m going to be a Black-throated  Green Warbler and it’s your turn to be the Black-throated Blue Warbler. Mostly it’s a lot of fun to see all these bright bits of color flying around.

Ciao!
