Day 153 - a Year by the Sea
June 2, 2007 by OrientSee.
Mr. and Mrs. Rubripes and their new family. Behind the reeds, there was another group, the Platyrhynchos family (Mallards). So the MarshHenge pan was a family affair this morning. There were a few peeps, small sandpipers, that were too hard to identify but it felt like they were part of the gathering as well. It was overcast and humid and the nasties are back. The nasties (mosquitoes) force me to spray up and down with bug spray. I smell like I wandered through the cosmetic section of BugsBeGone. I forgot two days ago and that was enough to keep me lathered in the stuff ever after. The worst is yet to come, not only more mosquitoes but also the super-vicious greenheads. Greenheads are the worst biters in my history, although there is much to be said for the ferocity of the North Dakota state bird, the Nodak mosquito. All in all, it is a small price to pay for seeing this bit of urban wild.
Ciao!
