Day 162 - a Year by the Sea
Not all of the magnificent winged creatures in the marsh are very big. This dragonfly was resting on a phragmites stem. They do a wonderful job eating mosquitoes and are heroes in my book. In the bright sun, they can have iridescent wings that rival rainbows for color. They also do that strange tandem thing when two of them hook up head to tail and fly around. Insect sex can be weird. After flying around joined up, the female bends up into the wheel position to finish the act by plucking sperm packets from the male’s abdomen. Find that in the Kama Sutra.
Ciao!
