Day 164 - a Year by the Sea

squirrel.jpg

Just a squirrel. Yet this is only the second tree rat that I’ve seen in over four months in this thicket. Right behind the casket company is a piece of edge land that is overrun with introduced plant species including Japanese Knot Weed (the worst kind of invasive growing plant). There’s been years of dumping and trash blows around while warblers flit overhead. Squirrels would seem to fit in but they are seldom in this thicket. This piece of land isn’t separated by the marsh from dry land. The plot is actually part of the large hill that stretches over to Chelsea Creek. The hill elsewhere is loaded with squirrels and skunks. Here it’s a different story. Obviously this guy has found food. So where are the rest of his family? It’s a small mystery to me.

Ciao!
