Day 190 - a Year by the Sea
July 9, 2007 by OrientSee.
A different sort of flower. Thistles in bloom are a joy to look at but don’t touch. They are bristly, thorny and actually quite nasty to human skin. Qualities such as these are one reason that it is the national flower of Scotland. Dour and taciturn to a fault. Old time yankees share these characteristics and since I have both strains in my genes, is it any wonder that I like thistles? In my generation, these personality traits are softened but still solidly there. No one would ever mistake me for a Californian. Yet, I appreciate the joy of what I see in Belle Isle Marsh.
Ciao!
