Day 193 - a Year by the Sea
Ailanthus - Tree of Heaven. Our premier weed tree. It grows everywhere from roof gutters to the marsh edge. It doesn’t like dense shade and it too has samaras. The little whirlygigs that maple trees have, Ailanthus trees have as well. Today they were quite striking. I had a surprising walk today. It wasn’t high tide and it was mid-day. So, I didn’t expect much. It started off with starlings pelting me with mulberries and an oriole preening himself. The osprey was eating his noon meal of fish. Every robin on the east coast decided to follow and loudly pester me. (For now the redwings are much less noisy.) The great egret was fishing in the creek and he had a companion yellowlegs alongside. It was Mutt and Jeff. The sky was clear and the air was warm but dry. All in all it was a perfect day.
Ciao!
