Day 197 - a Year by the Sea

flock_starlings.jpg

The starlings are swarming. They flock together all the time but it seems that at this time of year they gather in bigger and bigger groups. Back before the Central Artery was depressed underground, the starlings roosted and flocked on the steel structure beneath the roadway. They gathered in groups of almost a million birds before moving south in the fall. It is amazing to watch them swirl together and never collide. They may be just annoying, non-native, starlingsĀ  but even they can fill the sky with wonder.

Ciao!
