Day 217 - a Year by the Sea
I have always imagined the Everglades as a wet, hot swamp overflowing with life. You would never confuse Belle Isle Marsh with south Florida but this morning at sunrise, I was flabbergasted by the pool. I don’t need to see the Everglades now. Several hundred shorebirds, 45 Snowy Egrets, 12 Great Egrets, 2 Glossy Ibis, various terns and a cloud of starlings in the background. They were noisy, bickering with each other and jumping all about. The sun was coming up and the crickets were still singing. It was almost too much to take in. I had this loopy grin on my face and it was great to be there. It was worth every second of sleep that I missed by getting up at 4:30. Take a chance and come early some morning and see it for yourself.
Ciao!
