Day 225 - a Year by the Sea

yellowlegs.jpg

The shorebirds are the most noticeable feature of the marsh now. At high tide there are hundreds of them feeding in the pools and along the mud flats. This elegant bird is a Greater Yellowlegs (Grand chevalier à pattes jaunes - the big knight with yellow legs). Usually I can’t get this close but today they were cooperative. It’s not flashy like a cardinal or an egret. This Yellowlegs is proportioned like a runway model with those long legs and simple coloring. They are a very attractive bird to observe. Fortunately they are easy to find at this time of year.

Ciao!
