Day 228 - a Year by the Sea
On the way out to the outlook, there is a large snag, a dead tree. Although it lies close to the path, it is hard to get to because of the thicket of bushes and wild thorns. I was walking along working on my laughable imitation of the wary Indian scout when a very large bird, an osprey flew through the branches of the snag. There was a loud crash and I thought for a moment that the bird collided with the tree. What actually happened was that it snapped off a branch in its talons and flew off for the nest. Ospreys like to build up their nests even after there are chicks. Still it was a real surprise to see the bird just rip off a branch that way. In any case, it came back and tried to get a branch just by standing on another limb. This time it didn’t work but at least I got a photo. It is unnerving to have a large aerial object crash into a nearby tree while you are walking past.
Ciao!
