Day 244 - a Year by the Sea

Contrasts. In the middle of this urban industrial landscape, a Lesser Yellowlegs is dabbling in a puddle of vile looking rusty water. I can’t imagine what it is finding worthwhile to eat but something has to be there. The lesser is not a peacock or a macaw but it is so unlike the steel tank behind it. A small shorebird, the lesser is a beautiful sight to behold. The tank and the rusty pipes are real and quite ugly but devoid of much significance until the little bird makes a statement by walking around its base. There ought to be some way to make a tank look better. Sometimes Belle Isle Marsh is giving us the same redemptive message about our city.

Ciao!
