Day 246 - a Year by the Sea
September 3, 2007 by OrientSee.
Today was a very windy day. This prominent dead birch was hosting a gang of noisy crows. This Sharp-shinned Hawk made one pass and the crows fled immediately. Then the hawk decided to perch on the same tree. The result was a hawk dance. The branches were waving back and forth so much that the hawk couldn’t find an easy perch. She spent some time in various aerial acrobatics with little luck. Finally, she got a good hold and then just as suddenly gave it all up and flew off. It was some sort of territorial dispute with the crows losing even though they were actually larger than the hawk. No one wants to mess around with a real killer no matter how small they are. Some little guys are real mean and real tough.
Ciao!
