Day 261 - a Year by the Sea
Today was a better day. I went out earlier and there was much more to see. I flushed a Yellowlegs by accident and he flew off right next to the tern platform which no longer has terns nesting on it. It was actually a shelter for a small sewer project which involved some digging and excavation years ago. There was a Merlin preening up in a dead birch. It was a fastidious cleaning that was interrupted when a jumbo thundered overhead. I saw a small pack of robins foraging in the park. I think that they were migrants passing through since I haven’t seen a robin in weeks. The egret gang is still with us and so are the cedar waxwings. The marsh was just not so empty as it has been lately. It will be empty of all but the ducks and geese soon enough. For now it is enough that I got to see my old friend again, the pheasant in all his rich color.
Ciao!
