Day 311 - a Year by the Sea
November 7, 2007 by OrientSee.
This is a Staghorn Sumac. The leaves have dropped and the fruit is gone. The twigs are covered with fine furry filaments like the horns of a stag. The bright sun catches the fur and the result is this luminescent glow. The whole colony glows under this light. Everything was cold this morning and it wasn’t till some time had gone by that things warmed up and the chattering and buzzing of living things returned to the thicket. It was a bright day and the marsh is soaking up the warmth and the rain of yesterday. Things are wetter and the whole place is getting more marsh-like than it has been after our dry spell. Thank goodness for my high rubber boots.
Ciao!
