Day 321 - a Year by the Sea
November 17, 2007 by OrientSee.
This young Cooper’s Hawk came off the ground in the reeds so fast that I thought it had gotten completely away. A few moments later I caught up with him in the tree. He didn’t take off because he hadn’t finished his brunch. There is a hunk of bloody fur in his talons and that was more important than the annoying two-legs that was watching. The angle was bad because of the morning light but in the binoculars, he was a thing of beauty. I couldn’t leave until he did. It was a very windy cold morning and I had resigned myself to a dull walk. There was a Great Blue Heron by Rosie’s Pond and a noisy batch of chickadees in the thicket. I startled a bittern ( I think an American Bittern) by the muskrat pond and a RedTail Hawk was presiding over the park entrance from a telephone pole. So the walk turned out far from dull and since I was all bundled up, it was great to be outside.
Ciao!
