Day 324 - a Year by the Sea

Earlier this year there had been a small fire at the edge of the marsh. It was mostly phragmites reed that burned but the result was a very ugly patch of land. Unexpectedly the reeds burst from their untouched underground rhizomes and quickly covered the site. The reeds grew well but did not reach the same height as the undamaged plants. Now that the frost and snowflakes have come, these same plants have been less affected by the cold. The greens have been largely replaced by an intense gold. There are no foxtail seed heads but the leaves are more colorful than any of the surrounding stands. It is an amazing display of color.
