January 13
January 13, 2008 by OrientSee.
I started my walk this morning behind the casket company as usual. The first thing that I overlooked was a piece of driftwood that had gotten lodged in a vertical position at the high tide line. Then I realized that it was a Great Blue Heron basking in the sunshine. It was immobile and surprisingly well camouflaged. Remembering the other day, I knew that it would shortly take flight as I moved or clicked the shutter. So when it did take wing, I was ready and got a few shots of it in full flight. It set down off by the osprey platform where it started to feed. That was a terrific moment to catch it in the air. Later on from the overlook, I watched a Northern Harrier course over the marsh and then tangle with two crows who backed off right away. Harriers or marsh hawks have a very fluid line of flight as they skim over the marsh hunting. Another great day to savor especially with the big storm approaching tomorrow.
Ciao!
