June 9
It was town hall meeting out in the park today. The dragonflies were everywhere but the swallows were ignoring them. My guess is that dragonflies taste bad, real bad. This dark butterfly was feasting on a flower and made quite a sight. I have no idea what it is called. Butterfly enthusiasts certainly know but a lesser ignorant mortal like myself can only look in admiration. It’s very hot so cold adapted humans (including me) are suffering. It was nearly 90 by nine am when I was out this morning and I was wilted by 9:01 am. Unfortunately it was low tide as well and there wasn’t much moving. A Great Egret was out fishing in the Overlook panne and nearby in the Muskrat Pond, the Mallard family was exercising in the sun. An Osprey is still up on the platform so there is hope for another family addition this year. Otherwise the most obvious vision is the continuing flush of blooming plants. The thickets are full of scent and my black rubber boots ended up yellow from all the pollen. It’s quite an olfactory treat.
Ciao!
